United Way's 17th Annual Day of Caring
August 21, 2009 (Springfield, MO)...Thursday over 1400 community volunteers gave of their time, talent and muscle to work on 150 projects for the 23 partner agencies of United Way of the Ozarks. This was the 16th annual Day of Caring in Springfield, which has become one of the largest United Way Day of Caring events in the United States.
This year's Day of Caring sponsors were Bass Pro Shops, Chase Card Services, PENMAC and St John's. The day began with a volunteer breakfast provided by Village Inn, Dillon's Markets and Ozarks Coca Cola/Dr Pepper Bottling Company. Local sportscaster Ned Reynolds was the master of ceremonies at breakfast. During the day, a group of "Big Scoops" provided volunteer workers ice cream provided by Associated Wholesale Grocers.
Day of Caring chair Pat Dierking of City Utilities comments, "Day of Caring is always a great event for both the agencies and the volunteers. The agencies are able to have projects completed with donated talent and the money that is saved stays in their programs where it has the most impact. While the volunteers get to enjoy a day of fellowship with co-workers and the opportunity to meet volunteers from other organizations."
United Way of the Ozarks is a locally governed, volunteer-driven organization whose Mission is: to increase the understanding of human needs and mobilize resources to meet those needs. United Way of the Ozarks funds over 60 programs and initiatives that address critical health and human service needs in a 14 county area.
